Meet the Hostess
Hi, my name is Rebecca. I'm a married stay-at-home mom of two awesome (and destructive, and challenging) toddler boys. My oldest son is autistc (PDD-NOS), and the most awesome little boy ever. His brother is a cute little firecracker whose attitude belies his small stature. They are both my sunshine!
I'm a little different from the "typical" mommy image, I guess - I have a few facial piercings, and currently my hair is purple. But the kids don't seem to mind. :) I've always been the "artistic type", as my mom says!
In addition to being "artistic", I'm also big into crafty pursuits. I knit and crochet (and dabble in design for both), I'm just dipping my toes into sewing, and I'm not afraid of a little DIY. I have future aspirations of spinning and dyeing my own yarn, and getting more comfortable with more in-depth DIYs like those requiring power tools more complicated than a power drill. There are so many things I want to do, and so little kid-free time to do them! (Safety first! Only kid-friendly crafts when the kids are around.)
Why "West End"?
No, that's not my address. So why did I name my blog The House at West End? Honestly, it started as kind of a joke.
We recently moved into our own (albeit rented) place again after several years of unemployment and living with family. While we were super-grateful for the help, we're also very psyched (as we're sure my family is) that we finally have our own space.
One of the first things I did after we got most of our stuff moved over (if not all unpacked) was to paint our grubby white front door. I've always wanted a house with a colorful front door, and never had one. So, with the landlord's blessing (we have an awesome landlord), Off went I to Sherwin Williams for some paint.
Red is nice, and so is blue, but I settled on a nice deep green. I thought it would pop great with our white siding and porch, and still be pretty behind the red bush out front in the fall.
It's a really nice color green - and a friend commented that if only the door were round, it would be the perfect color for a Hobbit house! I agreed and added that while it was unintentional, it was only fitting because we jokingly refer to my 2-1/2-year-old son as a Hobbit - he's smaller than average and he always seems to be on the lookout for his next meal. Another friend laughed and said, "In that case, you can call your place West End!" (A play on the first half of our last name and Bag End, the Baggins' house from The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings - fitting!)
So there it is. Welcome to my House at West End. Thanks for visiting!
